It's me, Krakkus!

Welcome to my main website, where I host my articles, videos and downloads.

Krakkus.com is all about power electronics and energy automation, because just having solar panels won't be the fix-all solution it once was.

On the other hand, doing a lot better than "just solar" is actually very easy. Let me explain you just that here on the front-page.

Super Simple Solar Battery

Get yourself a 24v Li-Ion battery from anywhere, 2.5 kw/h or something like that. It has all sort of electronic protection build-in. It is nearly impossible to destroy it by accident. And that is nice, because I also have a couple of dead lead-acid batteries, they didn't have any protection.

Next, a couple of solar panels, maybe 50 volts and 500 watts, that sort of thing.

Then a battery charger, to charge the battery from the solar panels. The "Victron BlueSolar MPPT 75/15" for example, is a great one, and under $50. Don't get one of those $5 chargers from eBay, that killed my lead-acid batteries .

Once you have the one connected to the other, you'll have the battery charged and ready whenever the sun is shining. Great start.

Here comes the kicker! Find out what is your standby-power-consumption. Then get yourself a grid-tied-inverter around that same number of watts and attach that to the battery.

Now as soon as the sun comes up, you start generating just as much energy as you are using (in standby) and that also for hours after the sun goes down. Until the battery is empty and the internal circuitry shuts it down automatically.

This is a great and simple solution, saving you a lot of energy while barely sending power back to the grid.
